Rollers carry the full weight of your sliding door every time you open it. How long they last depends on the rollers themselves, how often the door is used and, in Florida, the weather.
What wears rollers out
Sand and grit. Lanai sand and pool-deck grit grind down roller wheels and bearings.
Humidity. Steel parts rust in our humid climate, especially near lakes and rivers.
Salt air. On the coast, salt speeds up corrosion. Beachfront condo doors in Daytona Beach wear out rollers much faster than inland homes.
Heavy use. A family patio door opened dozens of times a day wears faster than a door to a spare room.
Basic builder-grade parts. Many newer homes come with inexpensive rollers that wear out within a few years.

Warning signs your rollers are going
- The door feels heavy or needs two hands
- Grinding, scraping or rumbling as it moves
- The door jumps or bumps at certain spots
- The lock no longer lines up (the door has dropped)
- Visible rust or cracked wheels at the bottom of the panel
Why replace them early?
Worn rollers don't just make the door heavy. A seized or broken roller drags the panel along the track and wears a groove into it. Replacing rollers early often avoids a track repair later.
Stainless steel lasts longer
We install stainless steel rollers whenever possible. They stand up to Florida humidity and salt air much better than plain steel.
Roller replacement starts at $149 and comes with a 6-month warranty. Not sure if yours are worn? Book a free estimate.
